Locally recommended and had a line at the door a few tables deep the whole time. Portion sizes are big and the food was hot off the grill. COUNTER is 1st COME 1st SERVE so check it out if you don't mind elbowing up to a new friend.

The food is NOT like any other Mexican food in Los Angeles. The Oakie burrito is definitely worth the travel time from Ventura county! They take the extra steps to make the taste exceptional and delicious! For example, the pork chunks are crispy. A must visit for fans craving unique flavors.

I came here first back in 2000 and that began many my ore visits until I moved to Arizona. After I relocated, I came once, so this is my first visit in over 15 years. While other longstanding restaurants quality has declined, El Tepeyac has not. The flavor, the portions, the service and friendly staff is in tact. Sorry that Manny is no longer there. He was BIG fun as he always made us laugh. I was an avid weightlifter in 2000 and as he escorted us in, he stuck his chest out and raised his shoulders as I followed. We all broke into laughter. Thanks to this place for keeping it real.

So here's me, a literal 40-year-old Mexican food virgin, one of the whitest guys you know, walking into this place because we were visiting my late father-in-law's favorite restaurants from when he lived in LA. And I'm like... I should at least try to order something legit instead of a burger, right? The food all comes out and the plates are full to the brim. This is *a meal*, the kind of plate that says you should not and will not leave hungry. Steak picado, big pile of meat and veggies in tomato sauce. Nice low heat from spice that builds as I eat. Soak up more of the sauce with the rice. Maybe I should try more Mexican food, huh...

If you haven’t been to El Tepeyac Cafe, you are missing out! This place is a total Boyle Heights legend for a reason. The atmosphere is so authentic and old-school....it feels like you’re stepping back in time! The staff is absolutely wonderful; our waitress was so kind and treated us like family. And the food? TO DIE FOR. The burritos are massive and loaded with flavor. Seriously, come hungry! Highly recommend if you want the best vibes and even better food!
